Latta Park Installation 1
Latta Park, Dilworth, Charlotte, NC
This work sprung from a simultaneous urge to make a site specific sculptural weaving while traveling and without a studio, and a feeling of dismay upon finding this tree and noticing it's erosion-exposed roots. Using only dead, invasive vines from the park (wisteria, kudzu, and honeysuckle) I wove a spiral inward, intending to add structural integrity. The woven structure is modeled after the Mangrove tree, which has a root system capable of stabilizing itself by collecting debris and silt.
After the initial structure was constructed, a heavy rainstorm caused a flash flood - the vine weaving survived and became armature for new foliage growth.
