Archetypographia Studio Markmaking Series: SOLSTICE Branch Weaving & Cyanotype

75.00

Weaving and Cyanotype are some of the oldest and most versatile methods of markmaking continually practiced, in both creative and practical applications. Join us on Sunday, June 21 for an afternoon of intuitive making with non-traditional materials as we explore these two techniques!

The workshop will include instruction, historical context, and guidance, participants will make and take home one weaving and several cyanotypes (on paper and fabric) as well as a workbook to continue the practice of making.

- Branch Weaving: using a branch as an off-the-loom-loom, each participant will weave in a variety of fibers and objects to create a cohesive, sculptural, woven structure. Basic weaving patterns will be demonstrated and discussed.
- Cyanotype: using the sun and photo-sensitized fabric & paper, images will be exposed and washed out with water to reveal deep blue and white pictures which may then be framed or hung as-is, tea-stained, or transformed with mixed media.

WHEN: Sunday, June 21, 2015. Noon to 3pm.

WHERE: Smoke Signals Bakery, Marshall, NC - approximately 30 minutes outside of Asheville, just a bit off the beaten path nestled between mountain ridges and the French Broad River. The bakery is intimate and rustic, so expect to be cozy with your classmates. Class size is limited to 8.

OTHER INFO: No experience necessary, all levels welcome!
Materials will be provided, however, bringing objects and fiber of significance will only accentuate the final products, as well as make the process more intimate for the maker.
Lace, feathers, wire, ribbon, bones, hair, dried and live plants and flowers, and other small objects may all be used in either or both projects (among many other possibilities) to great result. Transparencies, large-format negatives, and X-rays also work well for cyanotypes. If there are any questions regarding what to bring, email me and we can discuss it (archetypographia@gmail.com).

CANCELLATION: We understand that things come up, so should you need to cancel for any reason, 75% of your money will be refunded up to a week before the class date. If you are unable to attend but it is after the refund date, a friend may attend in your stead.
